With a little squeak of delight Kaori nodded, not caring at all of any reprecussions to this decision. Kaori let her arm slip of his as Deakon moved to sit against a tree. For only half a second she hesitated, considering where to sit. She was yet too giddy-flirty-rebellious to think on it long though. Plus, she was the type to act in haste and speak without thought first...and then worry about the clean up later.
Thus, she walked the few steps to where he sat, her Chucks crunching in the deaden underbrush, and sat down next to him while leaving about a foot of space between them. She was the sort of girl that did not mind sitting on the ground, be it cold and dirty. She drew her knees up and wrapped her arms around her legs.
"It does not matter to me..." Kaori said with a smile, feeling the high that comes from breaking rules at Hogwarts.
In her mind she thought, What could possibly go wrong, anyway...? Gossip, detention, sleeping through her classes, extra homework...it was nothing. The forest was not even that dangerous around the edges here. Plus, though she was very much awake now, she knew she felt safe to doze off here with Deakon.

Deakon was glad. Finally he would have his first night out of the grounds with someone, and it was even better. It was Kaori. Deakon heard a noise from behind the tree. HE knew this area wasn't as safe as they said it was. He had acctually found the safest area in the forest and had been welcomed to come back by the ressident centaurs. Who, for some strange reason, had found him quite delightful. "Kaori . . ." he said "I know a safer place then this. It's deeper in but well be much safer there. I know it's residents and they have given me a place to sleep when I need it. Do you want to go?" He wasn't worried about his safety but more about Koari's. He wasn't sure if he could protect her. He was tired and when he was tired his power was a bit weaker. Not much but enough that it could be the differnce between life and death.

Kaori perked up at the question. There was no way, brave Gryffindor though she was, that she would ever explore this forest on her own. Even in the day. Not a chance. With Deakon here, however, and rather knowledgable on the forest's layout it seemed, she felt rather inclined to accept the offer as this was a very rare chance.
"Yes of course!"
Besides, meeting Centaurs would be sweet. She knew they were fierce and territorial but if they accepted Deakon, and he brought her in his safe keeping, then it would be alright. To get to see a real centaur clan home is also a rare opportunity.

Deakon looked back into the woods. He searched for the sign of this clan for a few seconds. HE spotted it; a bow with a star. "Okay let's go." He stood up and helped Kaori up. He wasn't about to let her think that just because they kissed that was all he wanted. In fact he felt like he wanted to spend the rest of his life with her. But, he knew it wasn't possible. He would have to join the war one day. HE held her hand as they began to treck off towards the encampment. It wasn't to far in but just enough to wear him out. Even an Elemental needed sleep, no matter how much power they had.

Kaori nodded and accepted his hand to help her up. It was easy for him since he was so much taller than her. She enjoyed holding his hand as they walked, quickly losing track of where they were going. It was inevitable that she would be lost if they got separated.
"Are you...sure they will not mind that I am with you...?"
Even though she was fairly sure it would be alright, knowing Deakon would not endanger her, she had to wonder. Truly, Centaurs were strong and could render great attacks if need be. She had learned this in her studies. As she looked up at Deakon to hear his answer she could see he was tired. Half smiling she leaned against him for a second, endearingly, just so he knew for sure that she was really glad to be out here with him. She shivered slightly as a winter breeze rustled the trees and trailed over her lightly. She had, after all, only come out in her hoodie, forgetting her cloak in her haste to find Deakon in the first place.

Deakon nooded. "Yea. THey know that the only time I come here with someone that it's alright." HE stopped dead. He looked at the, now, ravaged centaur village. "Not good." The two words came from his mouth like death omens. He whistled hastily. What he was whistling was a call, of sorts, to tell them he was here. His eyes peirced through the darkness as he saw a death eater in the center of the village. "Oh nuts!" HE cried out. "Kaori, we need to run." And without waiting for a response, he wisked her off her feet and ran for the school.

Kaori was about to respond but looked on at the devastation of the centaur clan's village. Her mouth dropped and her dark eyes widened in shock. The grove had fallen trees across it, dead centaurs lying all over. The corpses were of men, women and children and some were awfully dismembered. A pained gasp broke out of Kaori, seeing such a sight, and she took a step back on impulse.
A sudden movement in the center of the grove drew their attention. A death eater, marked by his drawn hood and skeletal mask, stepped into a path of moonlight and turned towards she and Deakon. On the distant side of the village it seemed there was at least one or two more death eaters finishing off the killing and searching.
Kaori gasped as she was suddenly lifted by Deakon but as his long legs carried them back towards the school, she buried her face into his chest. Kaori loved all creatures, and had always been intrigued by centaurs, and to see so many dead...like the dismembered child centaur that had been too easily visible...was almost too much.
Death Eaters...so near Hogwarts Grounds... Kaori thought fearfully, not even sure what to make of that.
She really never thought the day would come that they would get so close. Hogsmeade she could understand...but not in the Forest. The Forest had the Hogwarts borders with in it and the poor creatures inside only just able to guard the castle. The centaurs had been easily killed, it seemed, and they were the school's best forest defense. Kaori only hoped that there was not going to be an attack on the school...they had to go see McGonagall and Lupin straight away!!!

Deakon emerged from the forest, kaori still in his arms, only a few minuets latter. He knew what he had to do. He set her down just a few feet outside the forest. "Kaori go get luppin or McGonagal. I've got work to do here. I may be tired but I've had worse odds before." He kissed her one last time knowing full well that this could be the end of his life. "I wish she wouldn't have followed me." He thought to him self as he began running back into the forest. "Then, at least I wouldn't have put her in this position." HE continued running until he reached the village. The sight was even worse than before.
"YOU WANNA FIGHT? THEN I'LL GIVE YOU A CHALLENGE!" He yelled out into the copse. He raised his hand and it all went blank. When he came back to consciousness he was surrounded by dead bodies. "Did... did I do This?[/i]" he asked aloud. It had to have been at least an hour latter. He heard noise coming from all directions. He raised his hand built the power and passed out.

((lol since we have some overlap, I am fast forwarding this evening to February...as if it had taken place this month the whole time.. and Deakon lost his grandparents/told Kaori about his powers in early January...just for the record.
Without a second thought Deakon kissed her all too briefly and took off back into the forest. Kaori yelled after him to come back, tears on her face which she hastily brushed off always feeling stupid if she cried. When Deakon did not come she did sprint on her short legs up to the castle, the blistery air nothing though she was with out her cloak. Even though Deakon was an elemental he was still only a 4th year and a student against alumni death eaters...and they had no idea how many were really there.
Kaori burst into the castle sliding from her snowy shoes against the stone floor. She had no clue how to get into the Professor McGonagall's office since she had the Headmistress' one now...but she knew where Professor Lupin was so she pounded up there. A fierce, determined look was in her eyes but she was relieved not to run into Filch on her way. It was just after midnight, now, so no one was up anyway.
Bounding up to the Fourth Floor and down the first corridor Kaori skidded to a stop outside Lupin's office. She banged roughly, desperately, on the door.
"Professor Lupin!!! Open please it is an emergency!!!" Her voice, with its British-Japanese accent, carried down the corridor loudly.
---
From his sleep Remus was roused roughly at the loud banging and yelling at his office door. He had his personal quarters behind his office, as it were, and had left the separating door open so he heard the yelling rather well. Pulling his shabby robes on over his plaid pajama pants and gray t-shirt, Remus padded quickly to the door and pulled out his wand form the pocket of his robes to unlock it. He held it still as he opened the door with a spell said in his mind and was surprised to see Kaori Matsushita there. He knew that she was Deakon's girl friend and that she knew he was an elemental.
Remus quickly pulled on his shoes and cloak, grabbed the Marauder's map -folded- and stuck it in his pocket, and followed Kaori back down the castle. As they went Kaori explained to him all that had gone on, apologizing for being out so late, but Remus assured her that was the least of the problems before them. At the edge of the forest Kaori seemed shaken as she was unsure exactly where they had been. The Marauders Map thankfully showed them where Deakon was, stationary. It was still rather tricky to pick their way back to the Centaur's grove and when they got there Deakon was completely knocked out. Remus held his wand aloft as Kaori ran in front of him, her wand out as well, and dropped to her knees beside Deakon.
---
Kaori dropped to her knees next to Deakon's unconscious form, the pain nothing to her in her intense worry. She brushed his hair back gently, feeling hot tears on her cheeks again to her utter dismay but she was not worried about that now.
"Deakon!! Wake up..!" She said quickly, fiercely.
She was aware of Professor Lupin coming to stand nearer and forming a defensive spell around them, a strange bluish sphere that looked electrical and watery at the same time, and almost gooey. Even if the death eaters were still here, she was only concerned with Deakon waking up.

Deakon was in a binding sleep. He heard Kaori but was not sure if he would be able to respond let alone open his eyes. Then he felt a massive surge of energy ripp through his body. But not like someone had just cast a spell on him, more like his power being released all at once. His eyes shot open yet he could barely see. He saw a bright blue light around them and two figuers. He knew that one of them was Kaori but the other one he couldn't make out. He slipped his handto her cheek. "I'm sorry." the two words came as a whisper. He whipped away the tears from Kaori and said, "I... I don't know why I did that." A tear rolled down his cheek. He sat up and felt no pain. How's that possible? he thought to himself. Just before he hot the ground he had been in terrible pain, but now the only thing wrong was that he couldn't see.

Kaori choked back a sob as Deakon moved, putting his hand to her cheek. She followed his eyes that seemed to look around in a confusion. Seeing him alive, though, was more cause for joy.
She shook her head gently, that it was alright. It was not like she could be angry with him now, all she could do was hope the lasted the night. Gripping her wand tightly in her right hand she glanced back to the left and up and Professor Lupin who was holding the protective shield around them.
There were only three death eaters outside the shield now, shooting different spells at them that bounced off or dissolved, depending on the spell. Kaori shuddered at the thought of the shield breaking. Still, Professor Lupin was the best at Defense Against the Dark Arts so she hoped he could hold it.
"Professor! He's awake!" She said clearly over the din of spells, for with each spell hitting the shield there was a flash of some color light and a bang, of differing degrees of volume.
---
Remus heard Kaori call to him that Deakon was alright, so he glanced back and gave her a quick nod with half a smile of relief. He was trying to figure out what they ought to do now. One death eater just left, leaving two yet for he and the students to deal with. Remus was one of the few who knew that even though they were only 4th years, they still had great power and could get through this. Now was a great time to see how Deakon and his flame powers stood up in battle.
"Deakon! Can you stand?!" Remus called, not taking his eyes off the remaining two death eaters while fearing where the third had gone.
He only hoped they did not know the long trek to the school. This piece of the forest was just outside Hogwarts grounds. Literally a few feet off where the invisible line began making Hogwarts unplottable.

Deakon smiled. IT was one of his greatest joys to hear Kaori's voice. His eyes shot to the dirrection the sounds came from. There can't be more than four or five. he thought to himself. He heard Luppin ask one simple question. Standing was no problem it was seeing that was difficult. "Yea I can stand but I don't think that'll help with my eyes like this." He stood up as he said those words, holding Kaori with one arm. Why he'd held on to her was beyond him, but he'd done it and that was the point. He then remembered something his brother had told him. He had always had bad eye sight and it was only a matter of time that he'd be unable to see. He pulled out his wand and wispered "Accio, glasses." he focused on the spell and nothing else but his heart sank when he heard the sound of glass breaking. Great! Now how am I supposed to see anything. he though to himself. Then he heard the voice in his head. "Close you're eyes and focus on the sounds." what good will that do? he replied. " Just Do it" It shot back Fine I'll do it. With that thought he closed his eyes and began to see the world vividly. Almost as if it were day in the towers. The he saw two Death eaters in front of the sheild and another runnig away. "Oh no you don't." He cried as his fingers slipped across the flit of his lighter. His other hand pointed in the direction of the fleeing Death Eater. With out warning three fireballs shot from th the lighter and into the back of the death eater. He felt Kaori's soft hair on his cheek as the Death Eater collapsed to the floor in pain.

Kaori glanced up at him, standing now and holding her gently, seeing nothing visibly wrong with his eyes. The way he moved and held himself and looked around made the fact that he could not see well clear, however. Kaori saw Remus glance back briefly again. Kaori gripped her wand, reviewing all the DADA and charms in her head just in case, and gripped Deakon's hand with her other. Then Deakon spoke and she came to attention very quickly.
Remus heard Deakon say the words, a smirk creasing his face. Just as he felt the heat behind him as the first fireball was made Remus dropped the shield so the fireballs could get out. Also he wordlessly cast the Disarming spell, expelliarmus, on the death eaters before them. Kaori there seemed to have the same idea, casting the same spell aloud, causing the two Death eaters to fly back as well. All three of them stood still for a moment, nothing moving.
Remus then strode to the two other death eaters, wand out and ready. He already smelled the charring body of the one Deakon had hit, the man having gone up in flames at three fireballs directly hit. The other two had flown back several feet and Remus needed to know their status. One he found with a broken neck slumped at the roots of tree, clearly having hit that at the wrong angle. The other one he did not find but he figured a retreat thus. Returning from the trees to Kaori and Deakon seemed somewhat calmer, now that they seemed in the clear, but still at the ready.
"We need to get back to the castle..." He uttered quickly, his voice low. "Kaori keep your wand out and follow close, helping Deakon through the trees." Remus then turned and led them, sure that Kaori and Deakon kept up no more than a foot or two away since they could not be sure of any other threats.
As they walked back, Kaori doing her best to help her rather tall boyfriend not to trip or stumble, she tried not to think about what had just happened. War had crept up to their very doorsteps and she was trying not to despair over it. It was inevitable, of course, but hard to accept still. Hogwarts had always felt like a safe haven, magical and fanciful in the sense that it was other worldly and drawn away from reality. Kaori was currently putting on a very brave face, and though she did feel brave in part this was enough to shake even the toughest of Gryffindors unused to such things.

Deakon rested on Kaori's shoulder. That with him being as heavy as he was she would probobly have difficulty walking. He looked over towards a sound in the brush. This is just great. We could be getting attacked and there's nothing I can do about it. When a voice broke through the semi-silence of the night, Deakon became releived. Just Lupin he thought to himself. HE leaned back from Kaori and placed his hand gently on her shoulder. As they walked, Deakon became rather grogey. His mind began to wander but not to it's ussual domain of blood and fire. This was an unknown area to Deakon. It was his vision of heaven; an endless forest, Kaori by his side, and his two cats Blaze and Frost-bite as kittens. As his day-dream got more and more vivid he began to slow down And eventually stop, fall to the ground and sprawl across the ground. But his sleep was short lived. He hit his head on a tree stump and shot up, wearing a pair of broken wire-fram glasses. He looked around him seeing nothing clearly. Every thing seemed cracked. He knew otherwise though. He may have fallen asleep but he knew what it looked like when his glasses broke. As he looked around he saw no one. No Kaori. No Lupin. No anyone. Just him, his wand and the trees.
